Bulldog junior Myra Delgadillo scored her career-high seventh goal of the season
BOISE, Idaho – The Fresno State women's soccer team dropped its match 2-1 against Boise State on Sunday afternoon at the Boas Soccer Complex in Boise, Idaho. Bulldog junior Myra Delgadillo scored her career-high seventh goal of the season in the match.
The 'Dogs (6-7-1, 1-4-1 MW) and Broncos (5-8-2, 4-1-1 MW) each started the match attacking the net, but neither team would score until Boise State put one in the net in the 24th minute. With five minutes left in the half, Delgadillo placed in the equalizer from six yards out to the far post. Senior midfielder Alyssa Holsworth recorded her third assist of the season on the play.
"Unfortunately we were down early, but I'm proud of this team for coming back," Fresno State head coach Brian Zwachka said. "We went back out with the right idea at halftime. It took us a while to regroup and create chances, but by the time we did it was too little, too late. We just need to learn from these games and make sure we do the right things at home."
Coming out of the half, the Broncos would not let up and scored the game-winning goal in the 57th minute following a deflection from eight yards out.
Fresno State sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Theroux started her first game since being injured in the Bulldogs' Sept. 16 match against St. Mary's. She recorded one save in the match.
The 'Dogs owned advantages in shots (13-7) and shots on goal (4-3). Delgadillo led Fresno State with four shots in the game, while Holsworth, junior Sara Jo Ciapponi and freshman Julia Glaser notched two each.
The Bulldogs return home on Friday at 2 p.m. PT to face Colorado State. The match will include free admission, but will be the only home game this season that does not include free parking.
