FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team extended its home unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-0 shutout over Colorado State on Friday afternoon at the Fresno State Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Â
"Everybody loves playing at home and in front of our fans," Fresno State head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "We always ask the players to make sure they embrace the atmosphere and remember how good it is to sleep in their own beds. We have to show that it does make a difference to play on your home field."
Â
In a match where the Bulldog defense shined, Fresno State (7-7-1, 2-4-1 MW) owned a 12-0 shot advantage at the half and the Rams (3-10-2, 1-5-1 MW) didn't place one on goal until the 65th minute of the game. The 'Dogs would finish the match 20-6 in shots and 6-2 in shots on goal.
Â
Colorado State's six shots are the lowest by a Fresno State opponent since Nevada had six on Oct. 23, 2015, while the Rams' two shots on goal are the second-lowest this season after allowing only one against Pacific on Sept. 9 this year.
Â
Bulldog freshman midfielder Kasidee Wiley came off the bench to score the game-winner in the 35th minute, her first collegiate goal, while junior forward Myra Delgadillo placed in her eighth score of the season in the 68th minute. Junior defender Alissa Pham was credited with her first collegiate assist on Wiley's goal.
Â
"We were waiting to break the deadlock when Kasidee [Wiley] scored," Zwaschka said. "It was something that we talked a lot about. Sometimes it is just about the chaos of being in the right place at the right time and just being ready. We were happy for her, it was a really nice goal."
Â
Fresno State sophomore goalkeeper Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann recorded her second shutout of the year and notched two saves. This was the fifth shutout for the Bulldogs this season, the most in a year for Fresno State since seven shutouts in 2013.
Â
The Bulldogs haven't lost at home since August; their six-game home unbeaten streak is the longest since nine in a row going from the 2010 to 2011 season.
Â
Fresno State next hosts Wyoming (7-7-1, 3-4-0 MW) on Sunday at noon PT. The Cowgirls lost 3-1 to San Jose State on Friday afternoon.
