FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Bulldog wrestling program celebrated the beginning of its new era on Friday evening hosting the Faithful Family Night event in the North Gym on the campus of Fresno State.
An event sponsored by the Norcal Wrestlers in Business Network, Bulldog supporters heard from head coach Troy Steiner, assistant coaches Israel Silva and Jason Chamberlain along with Fresno State First Lady Mary G. Castro and former head coach Dennis Deliddo.
Coming to the Valley after spending the last 10 years as an assistant coach at Oregon State, Steiner sees this new era of Bulldog wrestling as one always striving to get better and represent the Valley in all that they do.Â
"I want our goal as a program to be about improvement on a daily basis and every time we step on the mat we want to compete at a high level," said Steiner. "It has been awesome to see the support the Valley has given to the wrestling program and we want athletes born and raised in the Valley to stay here to compete for the Valley."
Former Bulldog head coach Dennis Deliddo echoed Steiner's sentiments, "It is great to see wrestling return to Fresno State and the Valley and we have a lot of people to thank for that. The community support has been great and this program is about the community."
Castro thanked the Bulldog supporters for all of their support, "Thank you very much for supporting our student-athletes and wrestling is a great way for many of our student-athletes to stay in the Valley and compete and win in the Valley."
In addition to hearing from numerous supporters of the Bulldog program, Mike Moyer, the executive director of the National Wrestling Coaches Association, as well as Mike Wenzel of the Wrestlers in Business Network Norcal Chaper also spoke.
