As voted upon by league coaches and media, Stratton Brown, Jeff Camilli, KeeSean Johnson and Kody Kroening were named to the 2016 all-conference team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Four Fresno State football student-athletes were recognized in the annual postseason all-conference selections, as announced by the Mountain West on Tuesday.
Â
Senior inside linebacker Jeff Camilli was named a second-team All-Mountain West pick while honorable mention honors went to senior safety Stratton Brown, sophomore wide receiver KeeSean Johnson and junior place-kicker Kody Kroening.
Â
It is the first end-of-season all-conference nod for all four Bulldogs.
Â
Camilli posted a career-high 108 tackles in 11 games during his senior campaign – the second-most tackles by a Bulldog in the last 10 seasons. With 9.8 tackles per game, Camilli averaged the second-most tackles per game in the Mountain West and the most among all linebackers in the league. His per game average also ranked among the elite in the nation at No. 15. Of his tackles, 53 were solo stops.
Â
He was one of eight Mountain West players to record triple-digit tackles, and one of two to do so in only 11 games. He got there by registering double-digit tackles in seven of 11 games played this season. The senior linebacker also led Fresno State in tackles for a loss (9.0) and sacks (4.0).
Â
If it had not been for teammate Stratton Brown, Camilli would have posted the most tackles by a Bulldog since 2007. Brown led the 'Dogs in tackles with 115 during a breakout senior campaign. Over the last decade, Brown's total was only short of Marcus Riley's 2007 mark of 132 tackles, which ranks as the No. 8 single-season mark in school history – A.J. Gass, 1997 (123) and Chris Peters, 1992 (119.5) are No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
Â
Brown's 9.6 tackles per game ranked No. 5 in the Mountain West and is also the 19th-best mark in FBS football. Among all MW defensive backs, Brown's 9.6 tackles per game is the second-highest total among all players at his position. He ended the season posting double-digit tackles in six-straight games.
Â
His senior season accounted for 115 of his 136 career tackles, having entered the season with 23 career tackles in 21 games played over his sophomore and junior years. Brown recorded his first career interception in the final game of his career and first sack in his second-to-last game to cap a standout season.
Â
At wide receiver, Johnson owned the third-best receptions per game total in the conference with 5.5 catches per game while his 64.4 receiving yards per game total ranked No. 8 in the league.
Â
Johnson, who posted six touchdowns in 2016, was one of seven Mountain West receivers that recorded three touchdowns in a single-game this season (vs. Air Force). He also set single-game career marks in receptions and yards with a 10 reception, 142-yard receiving game vs. Air Force on Oct. 28.
Â
Johnson led Fresno State in receptions (66), yards (773), touchdowns (6) and yards per game (64.4).
Â
Kroening, a Lou Groza Place-Kicker Award semifinalist, made 15 consecutive field goals as a junior, tying a single-season school record set by Kevin Goessling in 2009. Kroening missed his first attempt of the season and last attempt of the season, leaving him with an 88.2 accuracy percentage (15-of-17) – No. 5 in the MW and No. 15 in the FBS. The Mountain West was home to six of FBS football's 17 most accurate kickers.
Â
Kroening's 15 made field goals equaled an average of 1.36 makes per game, which ranked third-best in the league and 31st in the FBS. He was perfect on PAT kicking (23-of-23) and totaled 68 points for the 'Dogs in 2016.
Â
The 2016 All-Mountain West teams were voted upon by the 12 head coaches in the conference and media members covering the league institutions.
