Bulldogs split doubleheader on Senior Day

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State split its Senior Day doubleheader on Friday against UC Santa Cruz and UC Irvine at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
Fresno State (9-15) persevered through the struggles they had been having in doubles, winning the doubles point in both matches. The early 1-0 lead over UC Irvine (16-7) gave the 'Dogs a much needed lift heading into singles play.
Junior Euan McIntosh overcame a 4-1 deficit in the second set winning five straight games to secure the victory (3-6, 6-3, 6-4). Along with sophomore Youssef Hassan's early win at the five spot for the Bulldogs (6-4, 6-0), Fresno State was within one point of the clinch.
Jeremy Moser put forth a gutty effort, forcing a tiebreak in the second set, but the freshman ultimately fell in the third set to Jonathan Poon (6-7, 7-6, 6-2). The Bulldogs lost the hard fought battle against the Anteaters, 4-3, their third one-point defeat since the end of March.
Fresno State earned a 7-0 win over UC Santa Cruz (6-7) earlier today. The Bulldogs started off the match strong defeating the Banana Slugs in all three doubles matches.
The Bulldogs kept the momentum going by sweeping the singles matches across the board. Junior Euan McIntosh had a near perfect singles match defeating his opponent 6-0, 6-1.
The Bulldogs close out the regular season on the road on Saturday at Nevada in Reno, Nev., at 2:30 p.m. PT.
