Thomas earns third MW Pitcher of the Week honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State sophomore left-handed pitcher Ricky Thomas was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week for the third time in 2016, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The San Diego native tossed seven shutout innings on Friday in Fresno State's 9-1 drubbing over UNLV in Las Vegas.
Picking up his eighth win of the season, Thomas limited the Rebels offense to seven hits, only two for extra-bases, issued two walks and struck out seven.
"This is a great honor to get on top of a memorable weekend with the Bulldogs winning a Mountain West regular season championship," said Thomas.
It was Thomas' fifth start this season without allowing an earned run as he has thrown at least six in all five such appearances. The sophomore also notched at least seven strikeouts in a game for the ninth time this season.
Overall on the season, Thomas currently leads the Mountain West in strikeouts (95), innings pitched (91.1) and opposing batting average (.216) and ranks second in ERA (1.97) and wins (8).Â
Nationally, Thomas ranks in the top 30 in four categories checking in 19th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.33), 25th in strikeouts and WHIP (0.95) and is 27th in ERA.
This is Thomas' third career MW Pitcher of the Week honor and the sixth time this season a Bulldog pitcher has earned the weekly honor.
After winning at least a share of the Mountain West regular season title over the weekend, Thomas and the Bulldogs return to action this weekend closing out the reguar season with a three-game series against San Francisco (20-33) starting Thursday at 6:05 p.m. The 'Dogs host High School Night on Friday at 6:05 p.m. before closing out with Senior Day on Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
