Three Bulldogs to play in Summer League All-Star Games

FRESNO, Calif. – Three Fresno State baseball student-athletes have earned all-star bids in their respective summer leagues.
Sophomore catcher Ross Dodds and redshirt freshman left-handed pitcher Alec Gamboa will both represent the Crystal Lake Cardinals on Tuesday in the Metropolitan Collegiate Summer Baseball League All-Star Game at Judson University's Hoffer Field. Junior outfielder McCarthy Tatum played in the Alaska Baseball League All-Star Game on Sunday at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage, Alaska.
Dodds, who played in 11 games this past spring for the Mountain West champion Bulldogs, is hitting .306 from the dish this summer and ranks fourth on the club with nine extra-base hits. Along with his five doubles, the Clovis native also has one triple, three home runs, 16 runs and 17 RBIs in 32 games.
Joining Dodds at the MCSBL All-Star game with be Gamboa, a Madera native who redshirted for the 'Dogs this past season. The southpaw has put together a great summer with the Cardinals leading the club in wins (6) and strikeouts (46) while tossing 36.0 innings and limiting opponents to 12 hits, five runs and has a team-low 0.39 ERA. Gamboa has come on strong in his last three outings combining to throw 21.0 innings while allowing his only two earned runs of the summer to go along with 23 strikeouts.
Tatum, playing for the Anchorage Bucs, ranks fourth on the club hitting .247 from the plate in 23 games this summer. He has 19 hits, two doubles, one home run, four RBIs, four stolen bases and 10 runs scored. The Clovis native, who has played in 58 career games for the Bulldogs, also earned a spot in the Alaska Baseball League All-Star Game in 2015.Â
