Erturk and Soke bring home UCSB Classic titles

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team won two titles at the UCSB Classic on Sunday. Cem Erturk won the singles Flight B title and Cagatay Soke won the singles Flight C title. The Bulldogs also had a fourth place doubles finish.
Jeremy Moser, Henrique Osorio, Erturk and Soke made the trip for the Bulldogs.The UCSB Classic began Friday, Oct. 6 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 8. The field features players from the Pac-12's University of Washington, Cal, UCLA and Stanford while also having athletes from UCSB, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, St. Mary's, Cal Poly and Pacific.Â
Erturk brought home the singles Flight B title in his Bulldog debut this weekend. He defeated Piers Foley of Washington in the championship round in three sets (6-2, 5-7, 6-3).
Soke won the singles Flight C championship after defeating Joseph Rotherman of UCSB in a three set tiebreaker (6-4, 1-6, 7-5 (4)).
Osorio and Erturk took fourth place in doubles Flight B in their doubles team debut. The duo fell to Kaya and Matta in the third place match 8-5.
Moser and Soke finished eighth in singles Flight A, after falling to Pane and Sborowitz of Pepperdine.
These are the second and third titles the Bulldogs have brought home this season. Moser won the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Arizona on Sept. 24.
