'Dogs set to host Saint Mary's and UCSC on Sunday

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team will host Saint Mary's and UC Santa Cruz in a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 21. The Bulldogs will face off against the Gaels at 1 p.m. PT and the Banana Slugs at 5 p.m. PT in the Wathen G. Spalding Tennis Center.

Admission and parking to all Fresno State men's tennis matches are free of charge.

QUICK LOOK AT THE 'DOGS
Fresno State is 2-0 this season, 2-0 at home.

Recap of last week – The Bulldogs opened up with 2018 season with a 2-0 weekend, notching wins over Pacific and UC Davis.

The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 4-1 on Jan. 13. Fresno State dropped the doubles point, giving Pacific a 1-0 lead to start singles. The Bulldogs recorded wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 6 and No. 5 singles to win the match.

Fresno State defeated UC Davis 4-1 on Jan. 21. The Bulldogs dropped the doubles point, to allow the Aggies to take a 1-0 lead into singles. Fresno State grabbed wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles to log the win.

Last weekend was highlight by the Bulldogs going undefeated in singles play. Zdenek Derkas, Mantas Bugailiskis and Cagatay Soke finished with a 2-0 singles record. Cem Erturk earned his first dual singles win for the Bulldogs against UC Davis. Jeremy Moser notched his first win at the No. 4 position over Pacific.

SCOUTING THE GAELS
Saint Mary's is 1-0 this season after defeating Sacramento State 4-3 on Friday, Jan. 19.

The Gaels finished last season 7-16 (2-7 WCC). Last time the two squads met, Fresno State defeated Saint Mary's 4-0 (2017 – Moraga, Calif.)

SCOUTING THE BANANA SLUGS

UC Santa Cruz will kick off its season against the Bulldogs. The Banana Slugs finished the 2017 season 6-8.

The last time the two teams met, the Bulldogs defeated the Banana Slugs 6-1 (2017 – Fresno, Calif.).
