FRESNO, Calif. - After more than a month of fall ball, the Fresno State baseball team concludes its fall slate this weekend with the Red-Blue World Series at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
"We have had a great fall," said head coach Mike Batesole, who enters his 16th season at the helm of the Bulldog baseball program this spring.
"Our 17 freshman are ahead of the curve and learning on the go. We have had some scrimmages this fall where we have scored a lot of runs and some that we have pitched exceptionally well, including a one-hitter on Tuesday. We are excited to wrap up the fall this weekend with our Red vs. Blue World Series," added Batesole.
The Red and Blue teams will square off at 4 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday before closing out with a third and final game at noon on Sunday.
Fresno State returns 12 letter winners from 2017, including four seniors in Korby Batesole, Nick Warren, Torin Goldstein and JJ Santa Cruz along with three juniors, including 2017 second-team All-Mountain West selection Edgar Gonzalez along with Zach Ashford & Jeremiah Burks. Â
The 'Dogs welcome 18 newcomers, including 14 true freshman, to the fold this season, while getting back three 'Dogs who missed last season with injury (Ryan Sullivan, McCarthy Tatum & Austin White) and three coming off redshirt (JT Arruda, Oscar Carvajal & Tiegen Jones).
Fresno State enters its sixth season in the Mountain West and is coming off a 35-25 campaign in 2017 that saw the 'Dogs have six student-athletes earn All-MW honors along with sophomore catcher Carter Bins being named the MW Co-Freshman of the Year. The 'Dogs will release their 2018 schedule in early December.
