Bulldogs drop one at home to Gauchos

FRESNO, Calif. -- The Fresno State men's tennis team dropped a home match to UC Santa Barbara Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs, who were playing their fourth match in five days, fell to the Gauchos 6-1 in the Wathern G. Spalding Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs took No. 2 doubles when Youssef Hassan and Zdenek Derkas defeated Chase Masciorini nad Kristian Prior 6-2.

The Gaunchos secured wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles. Nicolas Moreno De Alboran and Anders Holm's win over Xander Veys and Mantas Bugailikis (7-5) at No. 2 doubles clinched the doubles point for Santa Barbara, giving the Gauchos a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

In singles, UC Santa Barbara took its second point of the match at the No. 4 position when Cody Rakela defeated Henrique Wojciecnowski Osorio 6-2, 6-0.

The Gaunchos went up 3-0 when Morgan Mays bested Euan McIntosh in the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-3.

The Bulldogs claimed their first and final point of the match when Youssef Hassan defeated Chase Masciorini in straight sets at the No. 5 position 6-1, 6-4.

Zdenek Derkas fought to make a second set comeback at the No. 3 position, but eventually fell to Simon Freund 6-1, 7-5.

Xander Veys fell to Nicolas Moreno De Alboran at he No. 1 position 6-2, 6-3.

In the No. 6 spot, Santa Barbara's Anders Holm defeated Mantas Bugailiskis 7-6 (5), 6-3 to give Santa Barbara their sixth and final point.

The Bulldogs fall to 3-4 on the season and 0-2 at home.

What's Next?
Fresno State travels to the University of San Diego for two road matches Feb. 17 and Feb. 19. The Bulldogs will start with a neutral site match against UNC Wilmington on Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. PT before finishing their weekend against San Diego on Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. PT. The Bulldogs are 1-2 in road matches this season.
