'Dogs come up short against Dons 4-3

SAN FRANCISCO – The Fresno State men's tennis team traveled to Northern California for a road match against the University of San Francisco. The Bulldogs were defeated by the Dons late Saturday evening 4-3.
The match was moved indoors to the Broadway Tennis Center because of weather conditions. Due to the change of venues, singles matches were played first followed by doubles.
Xander Veys played in the No. 1 position for the first time this season. Veys defeated Johan Joenhagen from USF 6-3, 6-1. Veys improves to 2-0 on the season in singles matches.
Euan McIntosh defeated USF's Ryan Marker in the No. 2 position 6-3, 6-0.
Mert Zincirli of USF bested Henrique Wojciecnowski Osorio 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot.
Youssef Hassan played in the No. 4 position for the Bulldogs. He was defeated 6-4, 7-5 by USF's Oliver Poysti.
Mantas Bugailiskis grabbed his first singles win of the season when he defeated Woravin Kumthonkittikul of USF in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 6-3).
USF took the last singles point in the No. 6 position when Christian Brockstedt defeated Patriik Pech in a three-set tiebreaker (6-4, 3-6, 7-6(10-5))
The Bulldogs and Dons were tied at 3-3 going into doubles.
The Fresno State duo of McIntosh and Pech played in the No. 1 position. They defeated USF's Joenhagen and Zincirli. This was the first match the Fresno State duo has played together this season.
The Fresno State team of Osorio and Veys played at the No. 2 spot. They were defeated by USF's Brockstedt and Poysti in a tiebreaker 7-6 (10-5).
The match came down to the doubles match at the No. 3 position.
USF's Marker and Giraud defeated Hassan and Bugailiskis 6-2 to clinch the match for the Dons.
Fresno State returns home Feb. 7 at 5 p.m. PT in the Wathen G. Spalding Tennis Center to take on UOP.
