Broncos edge out 'Dogs

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team fell to Santa Clara University Saturday night 4-3.

This is the eighth match of the 2017 season that has been decided by one point.

The Bulldogs fall to 8-8 on the season.

Santa Clara grabs the doubles point
The Broncos started out strong taking wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the doubles point.

Santa Clara took a 1-0 lead into singles.

Broncos edge out 'Dogs in singles
Mantas Bugailiskis evened out the score 1-1 when he defeated his opponent at the No. 6 position 6-1, 6-1.

Santa Clara took the point in the No. 3 position when Zdenek Derkas fell to Connor Garnett 6-4, 6-4.

Henrique Wojciecnowski Osorio bested his opponent at the No. 4 position 6-2, 6-4 to tie the match.

Youssef Hassan gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the match when he defeated his opponent at the No. 5 position 7-5, 6-2.

Euan McIntosh dropped the match at the No. 2 spot, after three sets, to Andrew Gu (6-3,4-6,6-4).

The match was tied at 3-3.

Santa Clara clinched the match in the No. 1 spot when Robert Seby bested Xander Veys 7-5, 7-6 (4).

What's next?
Fresno State returns home to host Cal Poly Sunday, March 19 at 1 p.m. PT in the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
