'Dogs fall in championship match to Shockers

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team fell in the championship match of the Pacific Tournament to Wichita State 4-3.
Wichita State came into the match with a 6-5 record on the season, after defeating No. 39 Cal Poly in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.
This match marks the sixth match this season that has been decided by one point for the Bulldogs.
Shockers take the doubles point
Wichita State Jumped out to an early lead when the Shockers grabbed the doubles point.
At the No. 2 doubles spot, Jocelyn Devilliers and Eddie Stoica defeated Xander Veys and Mantas Bugailiskis 6-2.
The doubles point was clinched at No. 3 doubles when Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa defeated Zdenek Derkas and Youssef Hassan 6-3.
Match came down to Court #1
Mantas Bugailiskis lead the charge for Fresno State in the No. 5 spot, defeating his opponent in straight-sets 6-0, 6-2.
The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead when Zdenek Derkas bested his opponent at the No. 3 position in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
Wichita State grabbed their first doubles point at the No. 6 position when Murkel Dellien defeated Jeremy Moser 6-1, 6-3.
The Shockers took a 3-2 lead after Eddie Stoica defeated Youssef Hassan at the No. 4 position in tiebreakers, 7-6(4), 7-6(3).
The match was tied at 3-3 after Euan McIntosh took the point in the No. 2 spot for Fresno State, defeating his opponent in three-sets 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-3.
Wichita State clinched the match at the No. 1 position when Haru Inoue bested Xander Veys in three-sets 7-6(6), 4-6, 7-5.
The Bulldogs fall to 8-6 on the season.

Fresno State returns home to host Pacific Monday, March 13 at 1 p.m. PT in the Wathen G. Spalding Tennis Center.
