ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A hard-fought pitcher's duel turned the way of New Mexico on Sunday afternoon as the Bulldogs dropped the series finale at New Mexico 6-2 at Santa Ana Star Field.

New Mexico got the scoring started in the first making the 'Dogs pay for stranding a pair of runners in scoring position pay int the top of the frame as center fielder Jared Mang laced a two-out double to left center driving in pitcher Luis Gonzalez from second for the game's first run. The 'Dogs tied the score at 1-1 in the third inning with an RBI single up the middle by Jake Stone drove in Guibor from second base for his 15th RBI of the season.
New Mexico added a pair of unearned runs in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead capitalizing on a throwing error by Thomas to score one run and added a two-out bases-loaded walk for another run.Â
The Bulldogs cut the deficit to one run in the seventh on a two-out RBI single through the left side that brought in catcher Carter Bins as second baseman Scott Silva moved to second on the throw to put runners at second and third for Stone. The senior outfielder tapped a slow roller up the third baseline forcing Lobos catcher Andrew Pratt to spring from his backstop position and make a throw to first that was snagged by first baseman Jack Zoellner to prevent the 'Dogs from doing any further damage.
With Thomas finished after six innings, junior JJ Santa Cruz came on in relief and walked a pair of Lobos before freshman Davis Moore proceeded to walk the next three batters walking in a pair of runs to make it 5-2. Senior Dominic Topoozian relieved Moore to pick up the next two outs via a groundout and strikeout before a wild pitch allowed the Lobos to make it 6-2.
The 'Dogs were unable to generate anymore offense in their final two at-bats to drop the contest. The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday staying on the road to take on Sacramento State at John Smith Field at 6 p.m.
