Hopkins wins discus at Baylor Invitational

WACO, Texas – Junior Kayla Hopkins led the Fresno State track and field teams on Saturday at the Baylor Invitational, capturing first and third-place results at Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium. The Bulldogs finished with seven top-five results on the day.
Hopkins earned Fresno State's lone win of the day in the discus with a mark of 165-2 (50.34m) as she and Yazmin Torres finished first and third in the event. It was Hopkins' fourth straight win this season in the discus. Earlier in the day, Hopkins placed third in the shot put (46-5.25; 14.15m).
In the first event of the meet, Vanja Spaic placed second in the javelin with a throw of 156-6 (47.07m) despite recording a mark on only two of her six attempts.
The Bulldogs captured a pair of top-five finishes in the hammer as Aisiah Tuiasosopo and Manpreet Grewel claimed fourth and fifth, respectively. Finishing with only one legal mark, Tuiasosopo made her second attempt count with a throw of 165-3 (50.36m) which put her fourth, five inches ahead of her teammate.
In the 400 meters, the 'Dogs duo of Maja Pogorevc and Nailah Harris-Murillo finished fifth and sixth. Progorevc's time of 54.79 was the second-fastest of her career while Harris-Murillo was two one-thousandths of a second shy of her personal record.
Fresno State will travel to Azusa Pacific next weekend to compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 14-15.
