COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State had 96 student-athletes named to the spring 2017 Academic All-Mountain West team, out of the 986 total honorees as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
At 96 selections, Fresno State and Wyoming tied for the third-most 2017 Academic All-Mountain West team selections. New Mexico and Boise State led the way for the 11-team league with 128 and 111 selections, respectively.
Spring sports include men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and field, baseball and softball. Eligible selections must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better, in addition to being a starter or significant contributor on their respective athletic team.
Swimming and diving's 27 selections were the most for any Bulldog program since joining the Mountain West for the 2012-13 academic year. The swimming and diving program has led the Fresno State teams with the most selections for three-consecutive years.
Women's track and field followed with 12 selections. Baseball had 11 selections, rounding out the three Bulldog teams with double-digit honorees.
Earlier this year, 57 Bulldogs were named to the fall 2016 Academic All-MW team, including student-athletes from men's and women's cross country, football, women's soccer and women's volleyball. With this accomplishment, Fresno State became one of only four Mountain West schools to have 50 or more student-athletes selected to the fall academic team for four-consecutive years.
