Seven men's tennis student-athletes land MW academic honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Fresno State men's tennis team had seven student-athletes receive Mountain West academic honors this week. Five players were named to the Academic All-Mountain West team this spring, while an additional two were honored with Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Awards.
To be eligible to be named to the spring 2017 Academic All-MW team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor member on their athletic team.
Freshman Zdenek Derkas and Henrique Osorio received their first Academic All-MW team honors of their careers, both majoring in pre-business.
Sophomore Patrik Pech received Academic All-MW team honors for the second-consecutive year, majoring in kinesiology (exercise science).
Juniors Youssef Hassan and Xander Veys also landed Academic All-MW team honors. Hassan was named to the Academic All-MW team for the second-consecutive year, majoring in marketing. Veys received his first Academic All-MW team honors in his career, majoring in economics.
The conference also announced that sophomore Jeremy Moser and freshman Bailey Gong earned 2017 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Awards.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.

This is Moser's second-consecutive year receiving the MW Scholar-Athlete Award, majoring in pre-business.

Gong earned his first career MW Scholar-Athlete Award, majoring in mechanical engineering.
