'Dogs blank Tigers 3-0

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team opened up its 2017 regular season with a 3-0 win over Pacific on Knoles Field, Friday night. The last time the Bulldogs opened up their regular season with a win was in 2014.
The Bulldogs improve to 1-0 on the season.
"It was great to have most of our squad healthy and able to play for us tonight," head coach Brian Zwaschka said. "It's exciting for us to have depth that we haven't had before. This was truly a team win for us. Tonight everyone saw that they could be a contributor for us this season and the team really rallied around that."
FIRST HALF
Tori Nicolo, Megan Amick, Julia Glaser, Sydni Lunt, Myra Delgadillo, Melissa Ellis, Alissa Pham, Peyton Cline, Anna Crawford and Sara Jo Ciapponi led the charge for the Bulldogs, with Nicole Theroux in front of the net.
The Bulldogs and Tigers traded possessions until sophomore Julia Glaser scored her first goal of the season 34 minutes into the first half, assisted by freshman Ele Avery. Avery logged her first career assist as a Bulldog.
Sophomore Sydni Lunt played tough defense in the midfield to get Fresno State more possessions throughout the first half.
Senior Myra Delgadillo scored her first goal of the season 40 minutes into the first half, off an assist from Kaitlyn Crooker.
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Fresno State finished the first half with an advantage in shots (5-4), corner kicks (4-2) and saves (2-0).
SECOND HALF
Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann had three clutch saves for the Bulldogs at the beginning of the second half, to hold the Tigers scoreless.
Sophomore Kasidee Wiley landed her first goal of the season to put the Bulldogs up 3-0 with less than four minutes left in the game, locking in the win. Both Alissa Pham and Carly Bracken assisted Wiley's goal.Â
The Bulldogs owned the advantage in shots (5-4), corner kicks (4-2) and saves (2-0).
WHAT'S NEXT
The Bulldogs are set to host CS Fullerton in their home opener on Aug. 20 at 12 p.m. PT in the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
Fans will have the opportunity to win free tickets to the Fresno State football home opener on Sept. 2, in addition to a t-shirt toss at halftime. Sunday's game will celebrate Bulldogs Kids Day with jump houses and a face painting station for kids to enjoy. Admission and parking to all Fresno State women's soccer games are free of charge.
