Fresno State capitalizes on strong individual play, placing fourth of 18 teams at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – In a field of 90 individuals, senior Mimi Ho placed tied for fourth and freshman Brigette Thibault finished tied for sixth, leading the way for the Fresno State women's golf team as they closed out the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational on Wednesday. The event was hosted by Gonzaga on the par 71 Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course in northwest Idaho.

"To have two individuals representing the Bulldogs inside the top 10 is a thrill, I'm very proud," said head coach Emily Loftin. "This was a strong field we played against and I'm looking forward to see how we build off of this."

Ho led the 'Dogs, shooting 3-under-par (210) in the 54-hole tournament. The senior closed with a final round 2-under-par 69 on Wednesday and vaulted 11 places up the leaderboard. Ho led the Bulldogs with 10 birdies at the Invitational, which included three in the final round.

Thibault, who led Fresno State at this week's Invite after 36 holes, dropped from fifth to sixth following a 1-over-par 72 in the final round. Over the last 72 holes, the freshman is averaging a 70 per round since posting a 69 to close play on Sept. 12.

Led by the two top 10's, the team finished in fourth place (of 18 teams). The 'Dogs carded an 8-over-par 860, setting their fourth-lowest three-round team score vs. par in program history.

"We had a really strong finish today, particularly the last six holes," said Loftin. "They really came in focused and stayed engaged during the final stretch and it really made a difference in the result."

Also on the card was freshman Emma Larsson (T-31st), sophomore Hayden Mammen (T-40th) and freshman Alison Muirhead (T-81st). Larsson shot a final round 1-over-par 72, Mammen a 2-over-par 73 and Muirhead a 10-over-par 81.

"It'll be a quick turnaround for Kentucky," Loftin noted of the next tournament ahead. "But I'm looking forward to building off of this."

Fresno State travels for the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational next, hosted by Kentucky on Oct. 6-8.
