'Dogs and Cowgirls' afternoon matchup ends in a scoreless draw

LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Fresno State women's soccer team continued Mountain West play against a tough Wyoming team who was undefeated at home this season. The match between the Bulldogs and the Cowgirls ended in a scoreless draw, Friday night.

Both the Bulldogs and the Cowgirls went into Friday's contest with 15 goals on the season. The teams also have leading scorers in the conference on their rosters in Julia Glaser with six goals and Brittney Stark with five goals.
Marine Kerrache, Myra Delgadillo, Alissa Pham, Peyton Cline, Kaitlyn Crooker, Anna Crawford, Sara Jo Ciapponi, Emma Chivers, Carly Bracken and Angie Weiner led the charge for the Bulldogs, with Nicole Theroux in the box.
FIRST HALF – Crooker took the first shot of the match, saved by Wyoming. Delgadillo recorded the first corner kick of the game in the second minute of the game, but Fresno State couldn't get in the box.
Wyoming took its first corner kick in the third minute of the game, resulting in a shot from Brooklyn Mooney for the Cowgirls. Theroux recorded her first save of the match off the shot.
Crooker took her second shot on goal of the match in the sixth minute. Wyoming was whistles for a yellow card in the 10th minute giving Fresno State another possession. Chivers drove the ball into the box for the shot, barely missing the goal as the ball hit the post. Delgadillo took Fresno State's second corner kick of the day in the 15th minute, but the Cowgirls headed the ball out of the box to regain the possession.
Theroux recorded her second save in the 18th minute when Alisha Bass of Wyoming recoded a shot on goal. The Cowgirls' took the last shot of the half in the 40th minute, resulting in Theroux's third save of the contest.
The half ended in a 0-0 tie. Both teams recorded three shots in the first 45 minutes. Fresno State owned the advantage in saves (3-2) and corner kicks (3-2). Fresno State and Wyoming played tough defense in the half which really limited offensive opportunities for both teams.
SECOND HALF – Wyoming came out firing on offense out-shooting Fresno State 5-0 in the first 17 minutes of the second half. Delgadillo took the Bulldogs' first shot of the second half in the 62nd minute. The Cowgirls took another set of back-to-back shots, while their defense held the Bulldogs shot-less.
The physicality of the game led to a yellow card against Fresno State in the 69th minute.
Theroux made a huge diving save in the 80th minute of the match to keep the game scoreless and record her seventh save of the match.
Ciapponi made two hustle plays on the defensive end to keep Wyoming scoreless in the last five minutes of the half.
Time expired with the scoreboard reading 0-0, sending the match into overtime. During the second half, Wyoming owned the advantage in half (8-1) and corners (1-0). Theroux had a great half in the box for Fresno State recording four saves.
Going into overtime, Fresno State was 2-1-1 in overtime games while Wyoming was 0-3-1.
OVERTIME – Both teams buckled down in overtime playing really tough defense. Wyoming took the only corner kick of the period in the 96' minute but the Cowgirls couldn't get a shot off.
Fresno State took the only shot of the period, when Delgadillo missed just high.
The clock expired with the score still 0-0, sending the game into double overtime.
DOUBLE OVERTIME – Fresno State came out with a lot of energy on offense taking back-to-back shots from Muhrbeck and Delgadillo, but they couldn't find the back of the net.
The Cowgirls had one last chance to score with a corner kick in the 109th minute of the contest but the Bulldogs' defense kept the ball out of the box, ending the game in a tie.
What's next – Fresno State will travel to face Colorado State on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 12 p.m. PT.
The Bulldogs will return home Friday, Oct 13 to host UNLV at 7 p.m. PT in the Fresno State Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
