'Dogs advance in ITA All-American Championship

TULSA, Okla. – The Fresno State men's tennis team is represented by four Bulldogs at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championship. Mantas Bugailiskis, Zdenek Derkas, Youssef Hassan and Xander Veys made the trip for Fresno State.

The University of Tulsa is hosting the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championship for the 13th straight season, inviting the nation's top Division I men's players to compete.
All four Bulldogs started in the Prequalifying Singles draw. Prequalifying Singles draw selections are based on ITA preseason national singles rankings. The draw consists of 256 players, only the final 16 players will advance to the Qualifying Singles draw.
Bugailiskis defeated Joel Popov of San Diego State in the first round 6-3, 6-2. He defeated Luis Heredia of Marquette in the second round 6-4, 6-1. Bugailiskis will face Constandinos Christoforou of UNC Charlotte on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 6 a.m. PT.
Derkas defeated Boriss Kamdem of Tulsa 6-4, 6-1 in the first round. He bested Jose Alonso in the second round in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. He will face Dane Dunlap of Miami Sunday, Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. PT.
Veys received a first round bye, but fell to Matthew Lord of Virginia in three sets 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-2. He will play in the Prequalifying Singles Consolation draw tomorrow, facing Johnny Goodwin of Texas at 7:30 a.m. PT.
Hassan fell to Gonzalo Raschiatore in the first round in three sets 6-7(6), 7-5, 7-6. He will play in the Prequalifying Singles Consolation draw tomorrow, facing Brady Draheim of Oklahoma State at 8:30 a.m. PT.

- A player from the ACC has won the Saint Francis ITA Men's All-American Singles Championship in each of the past seven years.
- A doubles team from the SEC has won 6 of the past 12 Saint Francis ITA Men's All-American Championship titles, including three of the last five.
- Stanford has won the most men's singles titles with six, followed by Georgia and Virginia with five apiece. Tennessee has won the most men's doubles titles with five, followed by UCLA with three.
