Bulldog Wrestling head coach Troy Steiner named a USA women's freestyle World Team coach

Fresno State Wrestling head coach Troy Steiner has been named one of two volunteer USA women's freestyle coaches for the 2018 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State Wrestling head coach Troy Steiner has been named one of two volunteer USA women's freestyle coaches for the 2018 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, as announced by USA Wrestling on Thursday.
Along with Coleman Scott, the head wrestling coach at the University of North Carolina, Steiner will coach alongside his brother and USA Women's National Team head coach Terry Steiner and assistant coach Clarissa Chun.
Steiner is making his fourth trip to the World Championships as a women's freestyle coach, serving on coaching staffs in 2003, 2007 and 2015. He also coached the Junior men's freestyle World Team in 2003.
A native of Bismark, N.D., Steiner is entering his second season as the head coach of the Bulldogs after previously making stops as an assistant coach at Oregon State, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota, where he had a part in helping 22 All-Americans, 10 Big Ten champions, seven Pac-12 Championship teams and six NCAA champions. He also coached one Junior World champion.
Steiner will also serve as a personal coach to Bulldog volunteer assistant coach and Valley Regional Training athlete Joe Colon who will represent the USA in men's freestyle at 61 kg./134 lbs.
"I am excited to be a part of USA Wrestling and to help theses athletes work to achieve their goals of winning a World Championship," said Steiner. "We are also very excited to have Joe get a second chance to compete on this stage and hope he can seize the opportunity."
During his athletic career, Steiner was a four-time All-American and 1992 NCAA champion for Iowa and went on to be a freestyle National Team member. He won the 1992 World Cup as well as the 1996 Pan American Championships.
The women's freestyle portion of the 2018 World Championships will take place Oct. 22-25 in Budapest, Hungary.
