Bulldogs complete fall competition at San Diego State Fall Classic II

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team concluded its fall schedule at the San Diego State Fall Classic II, hosted by San Diego State at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego, California, on Sunday. The freshman duo of Bulldogs competing, Ella Husrefovic and Jane Ellis, earned a pair of wins against a solid field to send them into the spring season.

In doubles flight A, the pair took on Colorado's tandem of Monica Malinen and Megan Forster, but were defeated 6-3. In the consolation bracket, Ellis and Husrefovic were knocked off again by Marquette's No. 1-seeded team of Natalija Popovic and Fleur Eggink 6-4. The two Bulldogs bounced back in their final doubles contest, however, taking down Cal Poly's duo of Caroline Williams and Kimberley Bhunu 7-5.

In singles flight A, Ella Husrefovic was overtaken by Cal Poly's Susanne Boyden 6-3, 6-1. In the consolation bracket, Madeline Lamoreaux of Eastern Washington managed to take down Husrefovic 6-2, 6-1. In her final match of the weekend, the Queensland, Australia, native came out on top, overpowering Marquette's Fleur Eggink 6-4, 6-1.

In singles flight F, Ellis fell to a trio of San Diego State players. The first was a 6-4, 6-1 loss to No. 1 seed Lauren Anderson. In the consolation bracket, Ellis dropped to Ellen Ashley 6-2, 6-1. In her final match of the fall season, the home grown Fresno, Calif., native battled Aesha Patel, but ultimately dropped the match by a score of 4-6, 7-6, 6-1, respectively.

The 'Dogs will be back in action soon for the spring season. The team's spring schedule, along with information regarding admission and coverage, will be released on a later date.
