The class will be Jaime White’s largest group of incoming freshman since taking over as head coach for the Bulldogs in 2014.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State women's basketball head coach Jaime White announced the program's five-member 2019 signing class on Wednesday. The class includes twin guards from Arizona, forwards from Washington and Idaho, and a guard from Fresno.
"We're very excited about adding these outstanding players, and even better people," White said. "These five are great fits, they possess the fundamentals and versatility that we look for in our program and will succeed in the classroom, on the court and in the community."
The first part of the class are twins Haley and Hanna Cavinder from Gilbert, Arizona where the duo has been two-year captains for Gilbert High School, leading their team to a 52-7 record during that span.
Haley is a 5-6 guard who averaged 23 points, 9.2 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 3.9 steals as a junior. She was a 2018 first team all-state and USA Today All-Arizona selection. She is a three-time first team all-region selection and the 2018 region player of the year. She was named the 2017 MVP of the Tournament of Champions. She has twice been selected to compete in the adidas Uprising All-American Camp. She ranks as the No. 27 guard in the country according to ESPN.
"She is a confident and savvy floor leader with great IQ," White said of Haley. "She's extremely competitive, has great speed and shoots the 3 with deep range."
Also a 5-6 guard, Hanna averaged 20.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.9 steals per game as a junior. Like Haley, she is also a three-time all-region selection and all-state honoree. She has twice played in the Arizona all-star game. Heading into her final season, she was placed on the USA Today preseason All-Arizona team.
"She's a competitive combo guard that has the ability to create for others with her superb court awareness," White said of Hanna. "She has mid-range creativity that extends to the 3 and will give us another pressure defender."
Walling is a 6-3 forward from Vancouver, Washington. Leading Prairie High School to a 41-9 record the last two seasons, she was named regional player of the year in 2017 and 2018. The 2018 season saw Walling average 18 points and eight rebounds per game as she was named league MVP and was member of the all-state tournament team.
"Brooke is left-handed post with great size and the ability to stretch the defense with her 3-point shooting ability," White said of Walling. "She is also a great passer and an active rebounder."
Kinzer is a versatile 6-1 forward from Lewiston, Idaho. She led Lewiston High School the past two seasons in points, rebounds and shooting percentage. The 2018 season saw Kinzer post averages of 11.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. In 2017 she was a first-team all-league selection after averaging 12.5 points and 7.3 rebounds
"Kendyll is long athletic and competitive," White said of Kinzer. "She can play multiple positions and will be a huge asset on defense because of her versatility. She will add depth to our need for rebounding."
James is a local product from Fresno's San Joaquin Memorial. The 5-foot-10 forward was at her best during her sophomore year prior to injury as a junior. That year, she averaged averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.1 assists. She was a first-team all-league selection and was named the league's underclassmen of the year. She is the 57th-ranked guard in the country according to ESPN.
"She's an exceptional local talent," White said of James. "She is a combo guard that has great athleticism and can get to the rim and finish in traffic. She has limitless potential."
