Fresno State finishes Blue and Gray Tennis Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Fresno State men's tennis team finished the Blue and Gray Tennis Classic with two losses on Saturday to No. 1 seed Arizona State and Arizona.

Fresno State falls to 8-7 on the season.

AGAINST THE SUN DEVILS
Fresno State fell to No. 1 seed Arizona State 4-2, Saturday morning.

Doubles – Arizona State picked up the doubles point.

Mantas Bugailiskis and Cem Erturk fell at the No. 1 position 6-3. The doubles point was clinched at the No. 2 position when Zdenek Derkas and Youssef Hassan were bested 6-0. The match on court #3 was left unfinished.

Singles – Erturk claimed the point at the No. 5 position, defeating his opponent 6-0, 6-4. Cagatay Soke also recorded a point for the Bulldogs, defeating his opponent at the No. 6 position 6-1, 6-4.

The Sun Devils claimed the matches at courts 1-4 to seal in the win.

AGAINST THE WILDCATS
Fresno State dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 match to Arizona, Saturday night.

Doubles -- Fresno State claimed its first doubles point of the tournament.

Hassan and Derkas defeated their opponents at the No. 2 position 6-2. Xander Veys and Cagatay Soke bested their opponents at the No. 3 position 6-2.

The match on court #1 was left unfinished.

Singles -- Jeremy Moser was bested at the No. 2 position to even up the score. The Bulldogs regained a 2-1 lead when Erturk got his second win of the day at the No. 5 position (6-2, 6-4).

Derkas fell at the No. 4 position (7-6, 6-4), tying up the match.

Fresno State took 3-2 lead when Veys defeated his opponent in three sets at the No. 3 position (2-6, 6-1, 6-0).

Arizona would claim the win on court No. 1 in a hard-fought three-set tiebreaker. Bugailiskis fell 3-6, 7-5, 7-6.

The match was clinched at the No. 6 position when Soke fell in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 1-6).

Fresno State will travel to the Pac Coast Doubles Tournament in San Diego, Calif. March 2-4. The Bulldogs will play a neutral site match against Arizona on March 4.

Fresno State will return home March 10 to host Santa Clara at 3:30 p.m. PT.
