Making their first trip to San Jose State since 2016, the Diamond 'Dogs are set to face the Spartans in a three-game series starting Friday night at Municipal Stadium.
FRESNO, Calif. - Making their first trip to San Jose State since 2016, the Diamond 'Dogs are set to face the Spartans in a three-game series starting Friday night at Municipal Stadium.
Games 18-20: Fresno State (11-6, 2-4 MW) at San Jose State (6-9, 0-5 MW)
• The 'Dogs return to Mountain West action on the road this weekend with a three-game series at San Jose State.
• This will be the 'Dogs first trip to San Jose since 2016 as the teams only met in Fresno last season with the Bulldogs winning two of three games.
• Fresno State is coming off winning two of three games at home last weekend over New Mexico in the 'Dogs first Mountain West home series of the season.
• Fresno St. has played one or two run games in 12 of its 17 games (second-most in the nation) and has a 7-5 record in those games.
• The 'Dogs currently lead the Mountain West in sacrifice bunts (19) while ranking second in home runs (14) and are third in slugging percentage (.424), hits (154) and triples (6).

A look at the San Jose State Spartans
San Jose State enters this weekend's series with a 6-9 overall record in 2018 and a 0-5 mark in Mountain West play after only losing a pair of games at home against San Diego State before being swept in a three-game series at Nevada last weekend.
The Spartans are hitting .259 from the dish as a team to rank sixth in the MW. SJSU averages 5.2 runs per game to rank fifth in the conference and over 20 percent of its base hits have gone for extra bases tallying 18 doubles, three triples and five home runs on the season.
Senior outfielder Chris Williams leads the team in batting average (.288), at-bats (59) and doubles (6).
On the mound, the Spartans have a 7.37 staff ERA while opponents are hitting .316 from the plate and have 119 strikeouts while walking 86.
This weekend's starting rotation of Josh Goldberg, Andrew Mitchel and Nicholas Morales will feature two right-handers and one southpaw in Mitchel, a junior college transfer from Grossmont College who has a team-high 20 strikeouts in 15.0 innings of work.

Bulldog legend Augie Garrido passes away Thursday
Legendary Bulldog baseball player Augie Garrido, who played at Fresno State from 1959-61 and has his number #1 jersey retired, passed away on Thursday at age 79.
Head coach Mike Batesole, " Augie Garrido was a great man and a great person first. A once in a lifetime gamer. He always gave his time to myself and our program. He was a true, loyal Bulldog, who will be heavily missed."
Carter Bins named to Johnny Bench Award Watch List
Sophomore catcher Carter Bins was named to the 2018 Johnny Bench Award Watch List on March 6 given annually to the top Division I collegiate catcher.
A Freshman All-American and the Co-Mountain West Freshman of the Year in 2017, Bins is off to a great start to his sophomore season starting all 17 games hitting .319 from the plate leading the team in at-bats (69), doubles (8), runs (14), home runs (3), RBI (14) and total bases (39 and ranks second in hits (22) and slugging percentage (.565).
Looking for first road win
The 'Dogs are still looking for their first road victory of the season after dropping their first four. It is the fifth time under Coach Batesole the 'Dogs have had to wait until their fifth road game or later to pick up their first road win (2005, '07, '13, '15).
Ashford off to a blazing hot start from the plate
Junior outfielder Zach Ashford has collected a hit in all 15 games he has played in this season and is currently leading the Mountain West hitting a scorching .448 from the plate with 26 hits in 58 at-bats.
The Clovis native has five doubles, two triples, four RBIs, eight runs scored and a stolen base and has a 16-game hitting streak dating back to last season.
Double trouble
Carter Bins is on an early-season offensive tear from the plate already smacking eight doubles, 15th-best in the nation, as he is only one shy of matching his entire 2017 season total.

The Bulldogs have found themselves in plenty of close contests so far in 2018 posting a 7-4 record in one-run games and a 7-5 mark in one or two run games.

Ten-year anniversary of the 2008 National Championship Team
On Sunday, April 15, Fresno State Athletics will honor the 2008 National Championship Wonderdogs prior to the Bulldogs' game vs. San Jose State as we encourage fans to help come out and honor one of Fresno State Athletics greatest team accomplishments in school history.
The first No. 4 regional seed ever to advance to the College World Series, the 'Dogs proved all the doubters wrong and upset a talented field and came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Georgia Bulldogs in the final two games of the championship series for the title.
