Fresno State (12-9, 3-7 MW) was held to five hits on the night by a pair of Nevada (11-7, 6-1 MW) pitchers as starting pitcher Mark Nowaczewski tossed 7.1 innings only allowing four Bulldog base hits before Ryan Anderson came on for the final 1.2 innings on his way to earning his third save of the season.
The lone Bulldog to get an extra-base knock on the night, Korby Batesole, went 2-for-4 with a single and double while scoring the lone run for the 'Dogs.
Freshman designated hitter Emilio Nogales drove in the lone Bulldog run while Jeremiah Burks and Zach Presno picked up the other two Bulldog hits.
The 'Dogs used five pitchers in the contest with sophomore right-hander Ryan Jensen making his sixth start of the season as his record falls to 0-3 after allowing seven hits, five runs, two earned in 4.1 innings. Jaime Arias, Isaiah Davis, Tiegen Jones and Chad Wilson rounded out the Bulldog hurlers.
How It Happened
Nevada got the scoring started right off the bat with a two-run RBI double to right field by right fielder Mike Echavia in the top of the first. Jensen settled down over the next three innings striking out five to keep the Wolf Pack off the board before the 'Dogs broke through for their lone scoring frame of the night in the bottom of the fourth.
Batesole led off with his second double of the season as his blooper down the left field line just found its way into fair territory to break up Nowaczewski's no-hit bid. Two batters later, Nogales singled through the left side to drive in Batesole cutting Nevada's lead to 2-1. The Bulldogs threatened to add more runs, but stranded runners on first and second after a sharp ground ball from Torin Goldstein almost way its through the infield, but a diving stop by Wolf Pack first baseman Dillan Shrum kept the 'Dogs from tying the game.
That would be as close as the 'Dogs would get committing back-to-back errors by Batesole and Burks in the top of the fifth that allowed Echavia and Shrum to score unearned runs. Echavia was brought home by Burks' error and Shrum scored on a single up the middle by center fielder Wes Hatten. The Wolf Pack tacked on more one run on a single through the right side by catcher Kaleb Foster for the final score of the contest.
