Nevada outlasts Diamond 'Dogs in high-scoring contest, 18-12

Despite scoring a season-high 12 runs and matching its season-best with 18 hits, the Diamond 'Dogs were unable to overcome a early deficit to Nevada dropping the series finale to the Wolf Pack, 18-12 on Sunday afternoon at Bob Bennett Stadium.
Fresno State (13-10, 4-8 MW) fell behind 16-1 after three innings and despite scoring seven runs over the final two innings, the early deficit proved to be too much of a lead to overcome for the 'Dogs.
Three Bulldog freshman sluggers each tallied a season-best three hits apiece as Emilio Nogales, Zach Presno and Nate Thimjon combined for nine base hits. Nogales tallied his second double of the season while scoring a season-high three runs and drove in an RBI. Presno smacked his fourth home run of the season and scored a pair of runs while Thimjon recorded a pair of singles, his first career double and drove in three RBIs.
Sophomore catcher Carter Bins and redshirt freshman third baseman JT Arruda each hit their team-leading fifth home runs of the season as the Bulldogs went deep three times in the contest.
On the mound, the 'Dogs used a season-high 11 pitchers as redshirt freshman Tiegen Jones threw the longest tossing 2.2 innings while striking out a season-high three. The Bulldog pitchers combined to give up 18 hits while walking six, hitting seven and striking out five. Sophomore Davis Moore, making only his second start of the season, took the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season.
How It Happened
Nevada jumped on Moore from the start as leadoff hitter Joshua Zamora doubled down the left field line and came around to score on a single to left center by designated hitter Mike Echavia. After Moore issued a bases-loaded walk to right fielder Weston Hatten to give the Wolf Pack a 2-0 lead, he was replaced by Oscar Carvajal who preceded to issue a walk of his own to increase the lead to 3-0 and a single through the left side by catcher Marco Valenzuela gave the Wolf Pack a four-run cushion.
Already batting one time through the order, Zamora reached the plate again with the bases loaded and delivered a grand slam as he drove the ball to left field out of the ballpark off Carvajal. Nevada added one more run on an RBI single by Echavia to make it 9-0 before the 'Dogs had a turn to bat.
The 'Dogs finally broke through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second with a single by Presno to center field that drove home Nogales from second base who led off the frame with a double cutting the Wolf Pack lead to 10-1.
After the Wolf Pack added six runs in the top of the third to extend its lead to 16-1, the 'Dogs added a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame on Arruda's home run to right field.
Solo home runs by Presno and Bins made the score 17-5 in favor of Nevada after five innings and after a pair of scoreless frames, the Wolf Pack scored one final run in the top of the eighth before a three-run eighth and a four-run ninth for the 'Dogs off Nevada relief pitchers Cooper Powell, Ryan Anderson and Keone Cabinan allowed the final score to look respectable.
