The Diamond 'Dogs saw their six-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night falling 15-2 to Big West foe CSUNÂ at Bob Bennett Stadium.
.
Fresno State (20-12) continued its recent hot offense totaling 11 hits in the contest, its eighth double-digit hitting output over the last 10 games, but were limited to two extra-bases knocks.
Redshirt senior first baseman Torin Goldstein, coming off a 9-for-13 week from the plate that saw him earn Mountain West Player of the Week honors, had a career-high four hits smacking three singles and added his fourth double of the season. Junior Eddie Pena came off the bench to record his first career double and drive in his first career RBI.
After Bulldog starting pitcher Nikoh Mitchell stranded the bases loaded in the top of the first with a strikeout, the Matadors got to Mitchell for four runs in the top of the third as CSUN (16-16) turned a leadoff walk to first baseman Trevor Casanova into a run as he advanced to second on a single, third on a wild pitch and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by center fielder Justin Toerner.
The Matadors added three more runs to take a 4-0 lead scoring a pair on a two-out triple to left-center by second baseman Brandon Bohning and a double to left field by catcher Ben Martz.
After the 'Dogs stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the third after a Carter Bins strikeout, the Matadors padded their lead to 7-0 with three runs in the top of the fourth on a bases-clearing double to left-center by designated hitter Riley Conlan.
The Matadors tacked on six runs in the top of the fourth to take a 13-0 lead scoring three runs on three straight one-out singles before a bases-clearing double by third baseman Nolan Bumstead.
The 'Dogs got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the seventh with Pena's RBI double and Jeremiah Burks drove in a run on a fielder's choice before the Matadors closed on out the scoring on the night with two runs in the top of the eighth.
