'Dogs score four All-Mountain West awards

SAN DIEGO – The Mountain West announced its 2017-18 All-Conference teams and individual awards for men's tennis, Wednesday night. Four Bulldogs took home postseason awards, including Cem Erturk who was named the 2018 Freshman of the Year.
The awards are voted on by the league's eight head coaches and presented at the Championship Banquet the night before the tournament begins.
This was Fresno State second consecutive season bringing home the Freshman of the Year award.
Erturk posted a team-best 30 overall wins this season, and held a 19-4 dual record. The freshman was a perfect 5-0 in MW play, helping the Bulldogs earn their most conference wins since joining the MW in 2012. He clinched a momentous win over SDSU, 4-1. Eturk has played with a variety of doubles partners this season, he joined Bugailiskis at the No. 1 position to post a 2-1 MW record.
This is Erturk's first career All-MW accolade.
Senior Xander Veys was named the All-MW singles team for the second consecutive season. Veys, posted a 4-2 MW record playing at the No. 1 position for the Bulldogs. The senior clinched the match in a crucial 4-1 win over New Mexico. Veys part of Fresno State's most successful doubles team this season with partner Cagatay Soke, playing at the No. 2 position. The duo had notable wins over No. 15 Oklahoma State.They posted a team-best 11 dual wins.
This is Veys' second career All-MW accolade.
Junior Mantas Bugailiskis was named to the All-MW singles team. He notched 17 wins on the season, playing within the top three singles positions. He has been a solid No. 2 for Fresno State this season with a 5-2 dual record. Bugailiskis teamed up with Erturk to chalk a 2-1 record at the No. 1 position during conference play.
This is Bugailiskis' second career All-MW accolade, he was named to the All-MW Doubles team in 2016.
Sophomore Zdenek Derkas posted an impressive 28-10 overall record this season. He had a team-best 7-0 record in MW play, playing at the No. 3 position. Derkas clinched four matches for Fresno State during conference play. Derkas had a notable win against #62 Ferran Calvo (Oklahoma). The sophomore has played at multiple doubles positions for the Bulldogs, playing with variety of partners.
This is Derkas' second career All-MW accolade, he was named MW Freshman of the Year in 2017.
#2 Fresno State begins the quest for its first Mountain West Championship on Thursday, April 25 at 3 p.m. PT against #7 Air Force in the quarterfinal match.
