Fresno State kicks off the 2018 NCAA Tournament against No. 12 UCLA on Friday

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team will head down to Los Angeles to face No. 12 seed UCLA in the first round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships. The Bulldogs will take on the Bruins on Friday at 1 p.m. PT at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. Fresno State won the 2018 Mountain West Championship to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. This is the Bulldogs second NCAA Tournament appearance in five years.
"It's an exciting time for us," head coach Ryan Stotland said. "UCLA is a great team and presents a tough challenge ahead. We played them earlier in the year and lost, but I think we're at a different spot right now. I'm excited to see how confident we are at the moment, and we have a chance to beat an amazing team like UCLA. I know our team is much more excited this time around and we're playing at the highest level we have all year."

Ticket Information – Tickets may be purchased at LATC on the day of competition. No pre-sale tickets are available. All tickets are general admission, first-come, first-serve. Prices are $8 for adults and $5 for youth.Â
A GLANCE AT THE FIELD
In addition to the Bulldogs and Bruins, No. 25 Baylor and No. 36 NC State have also been slated to the UCLA regional.
Baylor and NC State will face-off on Friday at 10 a.m. PT at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The winners of the two matches on Friday will meet on Saturday at 3 p.m. PT with a trip to the Round of 16 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at stake.
UCLA (20-5, 9-1 Pac 12) – The Bruins enter the NCAA Tournament for the 37th consecutive season, dating back to the inaugural year of the tourney in 1982. UCLA is one of just three programs in the nation to have appeared in every NCAA women's tennis tournament.
UCLA is currently No. 14 in national ITA rankings. The Bruins have four nationally ranked singles players on their roster in No. 9 Ena Shibahara, No. 33 Jada Hart, No. 67 Abi Altick and No. 121 Alaina Miller. UCLA also claims the No. 7, No. 22, No. 39 and No. 64 doubles teams in the nation. The Bruins will be a force to be reckoned with in doubles as they have won 20 of 25 doubles points this season.
UCLA finished runner-up at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships, topping No. 30 Oregon State and No. 35 Arizona State to advance to the final where they met No. 16 Stanford and fell 4-2.
Shibahara was named the Pac 12 Singles Player of the Year and was an All-Pac 12 First Team selection. Hart was named to the All-Pac 12 Second Team.
The Bruins own the all-time record against the Bulldogs at 12-2. Although, the last time the two teams met in 2016, Fresno State topped UCLA 4-3.
Baylor (17-13, 4-5 Big 12) -- The Bears make their 14th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Baylor played a tough schedule throughout the season, with 19 of 30 matches being against NCAA Tournament teams. The Bears are coming off a 4-1 loss to No. 5 Texas in the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament. Baylor's Livia Kraus was named to the Big 12 Women's Tennis All-Tournament Team.
Baylor owns the all-time record against Fresno State at 3-0. The last time the two teams met was in 2011, the Bears blanked the Bulldogs 7-0.
NC State (17-14, 7-7 ACC) – The Pack makes its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, ninth appearance in program history. NC State has two ranked singles players on its roster in No. 100 Anna Rodgers and No. 108 Adriana Reami. The Pack also owns the No. 19 doubles team in Rodgers and Claudia Wiktorin. Rodgers and Reami were All-ACC Third Team selections. NC State is coming off a 5-0 loss to No. 3 Duke in quarterfinals of the ACC Championships.
If Fresno State and NC State meet in the regional final on Saturday, it will be the first meeting between the two programs.
THE BULLDOGS IN POSTSEASON
Fresno State finished the season 12-12 (3-1 MW). Fresno State enters the NCAA tournament having won nine of its last 11 matches dating back to mid-March.Â
Singles – The Bulldogs are led by the duo of Juliane Triebe and Emma Wilson. Triebe owns a team-best 14-7 dual record and notched a 4-0 record in conference play, playing at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Wilson has led Fresno State playing at the No. 1 position as she has chalked a 12-9 dual record.
Doubles – Fresno State has a ranked doubles team in its lineup. Wilson and Georgia Lawson finished the season ranked No. 50 to secure a bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship. They are the second Bulldog team in the last three years to earn a spot in the doubles championship. The Bulldog pair compiled a 14-11 overall record this season. The two earned wins over Duke's then-No. 1 ranked team of Samantha Harris and Kelly Chen (6-2) (Jan. 27), and USC's then-No. 49 ranked team of Rianna Valdes and Angela Kulikov (6-3) (Feb. 24).
2018 MW Championship – During the final two matches in Boise, Idaho, the Bulldogs were led by the back end of their lineup as both Georgia Lawson and Olivia Noble each earned straight-set wins in singles play after the 'Dogs secured the doubles point against San Jose State and UNLV. Katerina Stloukalova, who like Lawson and Noble were 2-0 in singles during the tournament, clinched the 4-2 win over the top-seeded Rebels in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 at the No. 2 position.

Fresno State Points
- Fresno State has won two MW Championship titles in the last five seasons(2014, 2018).
- Fresno State finished 3-1 in Mountain West play for the second season in a row to earn the No. 2 seed this week. The Bulldogs have not been seeded outside of the top two since winning the conference tournament in 2014.
- Emma Wilson and Katerina Stloukalova each landed on the All- MW singles team for the season straight year while Juliane Triebe made her first appearance.
- Emma Wilson and Georgia Lawson earned their second consecutive inclusion on the All-MW doubles team.
- The Bulldogs earned three All-Mountain West singles team selections for the third time since the conference moved to an 11-team league. Only one other school has done that feat once since the realignment.
- While not the No. 1 seed, Fresno State grabbed more All-MW singles team selections than top-seeded UNLV. It is the fifth time in Mountain West history that the top seed did not receive the most singles team honorees, and only the second time during the 16 years.Â
- All 12 losses in 2018 came to teams which finished the regular season in the top 70 of the ITA rankings.
- After dropping their 10 of their first 13 matches, the 'Dogs closed the season by winning nine of their last 11Â matches.
- Fresno State was 5-1 in matches this season that finished 4-3.
- Seven of the Bulldogs' nine wins this season have come when winning the doubles point (7-3).Â
- Fresno State enters the NCAA Tournament on a three-match winning streak.
