Diamond 'Dogs Summer Baseball Update No. 1

The summer baseball season has geared up for 21 Fresno State student-athletes playing in summer leagues across the country. Here is a quick look at how each player has started off play this summer.
Zach Ashford, Outfielder, YD Red Sox (Cape Cod League)
Ashford, a soon-to-be senior, is playing for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod League. The Clovis native, who earned Second-Team All-Mountain West honors this spring, has appeared in seven games for the Red Sox starting out the summer 8-for-23 driving in four RBIs, scored five runs and has stolen two bases.
The Buchanan High School graduate got off to a blazing start to the season with a four-hit performance in YD's season-opening 10-9 win over the Bourne Braves on June 12.
Ryan Sullivan, Pitcher, Humboldt Crabs (Far West League)B8 | With his 8th inning single, Zach Ashford is officially on 🔥🔥🔥. Sullivan, who will enter his redshirt junior season this fall, has tossed 5.2 innings in four appearances while striking out four. He tossed two innings on June 9 in an 11-0 win over the Valley Bears striking out two.
McCarthy Tatum, Pitcher/Outfielder, Humboldt Crabs (Far West League)
Tatum, who will enter his fifth and final season as a Bulldog next spring, has appeared this season for the Crabs as both a position player and a pitcher. He has played in 12 games hitting .314 from the plate leading the team in hits (16), runs (15), doubles (5), triples (1) and has driven in 15 RBIs.
In a 9-7 win over the Redding Colt 45's on June 14 that lasted 20 innings, Tatum went 6-for-9 with four singles, a double and triple and scored three runs.
On the mound, Tatum has pitched in two games tossing four shutout innings on June 6 notching a win and five strikeouts in a 4-3 victory over Seals Baseball and threw 1.2 innings against the Seattle Studs on June 16.
Omar Veloz, Catcher, Duluth Huskies (Northwoods League)
After redshirting the 2018 season, Veloz has played in nine games this summer for the Huskies with five hits, a double, scored four runs, drove in seven RBIs and has drawn three walks.
The Los Angeles native drove in a season-high three runs on June 5 in an 11-2 win at St. Cloud.
Isaiah Davis, Pitcher, Eau Claire Express (Northwoods League)
Davis, a junior this fall, has appeared in three games on the mound for the Eau Claire Express. After finishing last summer with the Express, the Rialto, Calif., native has tossed 3.2 innings limiting opponents to three hits, four runs, two earned. He pitched 3.0 innings on June 14 in a 3-1 loss to St. Cloud limiting the Rox to one run.

Thimjon, a soon-to-be sophomore, has appeared in eight games for the Express so far this summer collecting four hits while driving in three RBIs.

Mitchell made his Kalamazoo Growlers season debut on the mound on June 16 tossing 2.0 innings in a 5-1 win over the Lakeshore Chinooks striking out one.
Jamison Hill, Pitcher, Kalamazoo Growlers (Northwoods League)
Hill, who along with Mitchell will be sophomores in the fall, has made four appearances on the mound for the Growlers this summer allowing only two hits and one run in six innings while striking out three.

A soon-to-be redshirt sophomore, Carvajal is one of three 'Dogs in Ohio this summer playing for the Licking County Settlers in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. In his only appearance this summer, Carvajal threw 2.0 innings allowing three hits, five earned runs and struck out one in a 9-5 loss to the Lake Erie Monarchs on June 13.
Eddie Pena, Infielder, Licking County Settlers (Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League)
A senior in the fall, Pena has played in six games for the Settlers this summer with four hits in 22 at-bats. He had a two-hit, two-RBI performance on June 10 against the Galion Graders in a 7-3 loss.

White, who will be a fourth-year junior this fall, made his Settlers debut on June 17 driving in a run, stole a base and drew a walk in a 14-9 loss to the Southern Ohio Copperheads.
Zach Presno, Catcher, Anchorage Glacier Pilots (Alaska Baseball League)
After hitting eight home runs and playing in 48 games as a freshman, Presno is one of three 'Dogs on the Anchorage Glacier Pilots this summer. The Clovis native has appeared in six games so far this summer recording five hits in 18 at-bats with a pair of home runs, four RBIs and has drawn five walks.

Emilio Nogales, Infielder, Anchorage Glacier Pilots (Alaska Baseball League)
A .341 hitter as a freshman this spring, Nogales has appeared in five games for the Pilots this summer. The San Jose native has two hits in six at-bats scoring a run and driving in an RBI while drawing eight walks, third-most on the team.
JT Arruda, Infielder, Anchorage Glacier Pilots (Alaska Baseball League)
Starting all 54 games at third base as a redshirt freshman this spring, Arruda has joined Nogales and Presno in the Alaska Baseball League with the Glacier Pilots starting all 11 games so far this summer.
The Clovis native leads the team in batting average (.353), hits (12), runs (16) and stolen bases (6). In a 6-5 win at the Matsu Miners on June 10, Arruda went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles while scoring three runs.
Auston Chastain, Outfielder, San Luis Obispo Blues (California Collegiate League)
Chastain, a senior outfielder this fall for the Bulldogs, has appeared in five games for the Blues this summer with five hits in 18 at-bats smacking three singles, a double and triple, four RBIs and a stolen base.
On June 10 against the Arroyo Seco Saints, Chastain went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in a 14-6 loss.
Dylan Johnson, Outfielder, Dodge City A's (Jayhawk League)
After redshirting this season, Johnson has appeared in seven games for the A's of the Jayhawk League this summer with five hits in 18 at-bats.
The Blythe, Calif., native has a triple to go along three runs scored, an RBI, stolen base and a sacrifice fly.
Isaiah Haddad, Infielder, Dodge City A's (Jayhawk League)
Another redshirt this past spring, Haddad, a Fresno native, has played in six games for Dodge City so far this summer with three hits, one double, two runs, three stolen bases and four RBIs.
Robbie Peters, Pitcher, Crystal Lake Cardinals (Chicago Suburban Baseball League)
The final redshirt for the 'Dogs playing this summer, Peters, is joined by three Bulldog teammates on the Crystal Lake Cardinals in the Chicago Suburban Baseball League.
In five games on the mound, Peters is 0-2 with a save in six innings of work striking out seven while walking seven. On June 11, Peters converted a save in a 4-3 win over the Chicago Mudcats.
Tiegen Jones, Pitcher, Crystal Lake Cardinals (Chicago Suburban Baseball League)
A redshirt sophomore in the fall, Jones has pitched in two games for the Cardinals this summer throwing one inning apiece on June 11 vs. the Chicago Mudcats and June 13 against the Lombard Orioles.
Nolan Dempsey, Infielder, Crystal Lake Cardinals (Chicago Suburban Baseball League)
A senior in the fall, Dempsey has played in 13 games in the infield for the Cardinals this summer hitting .409 from the plate with 18 hits, two doubles and a home run.
The junior college transfer from San Mateo, Calif., native, who played in 46 games for the 'Dogs this spring. has scored 15 runs, drove in six RBIs and stolen seven bags. In a 8-5 win at the Homestead Ranchers on June 15, he went 4-for-5 with a home run, stolen base and three runs scored.
Miles Tomczak, Outfielder, Crystal Lake Cardinals (Chicago Suburban Baseball League)
The final 'Dog on the Cardinals this summer is sophomore Tomczak who is off to a blazing hot start to the plate.
In 15 games, the Ione, Calif., native is hitting .407 with 22 hits with more than half going for extra-bases. Tomczak has nine doubles, two home runs and a triple while scoring 13 runs and driving in 13 RBIs. He has a pair of four-hit games and scored four runs on June 18 in a 17-7 win over Windy City.
