Allison named to Butkus Award Watch List

Fresno State Football junior linebacker Jeff Allison has been named to the Butkus Award Preseason Watch List on Monday by the Butkus Foundation.
CHICAGO - Fresno State Football junior linebacker Jeff Allison has been named to the Butkus Award Preseason Watch List on Monday by the Butkus Foundation.
Awarded annually to the nation's top linebacker, the watch list contains 51 linebackers to mirror the legendary "51" pro jersey associated with the Award's namesake Dick Butkus, who was recognized by NFL Films as the best defensive player in football history.
Fresno State's lone First-Team All-Mountain West selection last season, Allison led the 'Dogs and finished 15th in the nation with 126 tackles while finishing tied for seventh in the country with 79 solo tackles.
The Miami native led the team and ranked 31st in the nation in tackles per game with 9.0 while tallying 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and three pass breakups.
Allison, who was also named to the Bednarik Award Watch List last Monday given to the nation's top defensive player, recorded six double-digit tackle games going for a season-best 14 on two occasions at Alabama and at home against BYU.
He earned a pair of Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honors after wins at San Diego State and at home against BYU finishing with 10 tackles, one for tackle for loss and a forced fumble against the Aztecs while tallying 14 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery against the Cougars.
Semifinalists for the Butkus Award will be announced on October 29 with the three finalists named on November 19 and the winner will be named on December 4.
Formed in 1985, the Butkus Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) which encompasses college football's most prestigious awards.Â
