McMaryion among Wuerffel Trophy Watch List nominees

Fresno State senior quarterback Marcus McMaryion has been named to the 2018 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List released on Thursday.
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. - Fresno State senior quarterback Marcus McMaryion has been named to the 2018 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List released on Thursday.
One of 107 initial watch list nominees, the Wuerfell Trophy is presented annually by the All Sports Association of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., to the college football student-athlete who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerfell of Florida, the award is based on 50 percent community service, 25 percent academic and 25 percent athletic.
An All-Mountain West honorable mention selection last season, the Dinuba native transferred to the Bulldogs in preseason practice before taking over the starting quarterback role in the final 11 games posting a 9-2 record.
McMaryion, who graduated from Oregon State in August 2017 before coming to Fresno State as a graduate transfer, is currently pursuing a graduate degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sports administration and earned Academic All-Mountain West honors in March.Â
Also nominated for the Maxwell Award, given to college football's player of the year, McMaryion passed for 2,726 yards and 14 touchdowns through the air in his first season as a 'Dog while rushing for 302 yards and four touchdowns. He helped Fresno State claim its first bowl victory since 2007 throwing for a season-high 342 yards against Houston in the Hawai'i Bowl completing 33 of 48 passes while rushing for 50 yards and two touchdowns.
McMaryion is one of seven Mountain West student-athletes nominated for the award joined by Brett Rypien (Boise State), Adam Prentice (Colorado State), Ty Gangi (Nevada), Bryce Crawford (San Jose State), Darren Woods, Jr. (UNLV) and Jacoby Wildman (Utah State).
