Colon earns silver medal at the Alexander Medved International

For a second time in the last week, Fresno State Wrestling volunteer assistant coach and Valley Regional Training Center athlete Joe Colon placed at an international meet taking silver at 61 kg. (134.5 lbs.) on Sunday at the Alexander Medved International Tournament in Belarus.
MINSK, Belarus - For a second time in the last week, Fresno State Wrestling volunteer assistant coach and Valley Regional Training Center athlete Joe Colon placed at an international meet taking silver at 61 kg. (134.5 lbs.) on Sunday at the Alexander Medved International Tournament in Belarus.
Colon, a Freestyle National Team member who was a two-time All-American at Northern Iowa, and competed in this summer's Final X series, went 3-1 in the tournament falling in the gold-medal final to Zelimkhan Abakaron of Russia by technical fall in the first period, 10-0. Â
The Cedar Lake, Iowa native edged American rival Nico Megaludis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Titan Mercury WC/Pittsburgh WC), 4-0, in the semifinals on Saturday and won his first two bouts, getting a technical fall over Pingping Zhou of China, 12-2 and defeated Asadulla Lachinau of Belarus, 14-6.
Colon took bronze on Sept. 9 at 61 kg. (134.5 lbs.) at The Ziolkowski Memorial Tournament in Warsaw, Poland scoring a 11-0 technical fall over Pingping Zhou of China in the bronze-medal bout.
