Derkas wraps up Oracle ITA Masters

MALIBU, Calif. – Zdenek Derkas represented the Mountain West Conference at the 2018 Oracle ITA Masters over the weekend, competing in both singles and mixed doubles. Derkas walked away from the prestigious event with two wins.
"It was an honor for Zdenek to get to compete in the Oracle Masters and represent our conference as the top player," head coach Luke Shields. "He got better with each match and picked up two quality wins."
MIXED DOUBLES
Derkas was paired with Miruna Vasilescu of Akron University. The duo faced No. 8 seed Nunez (UT Arlington) and Contreras (Vanderbilt) in the first round. Derkas and Vasilescu fell to Nunez and Contreras, 6-0.
SINGLES
Derkas faced Stefan Milicevic of Minnesota in the first round, Milicevic is currently ranked #45 in the nation. Milicevic bested Derkas in straight sets (6-3, 6-1). The Czech Republic native rebounded in the consolation bracket, posting a win over Alvaro Verdu of Marquette (6-1, 6-4). Derkas defeated Nico Mostardi of Cleveland State in the second round (2-6, 7-5, 6-3). Derkas' weekend ended in the third round with a loss to Oliver Stuart of Mercer (6-4, 6-3).
