Fresno State outlasted by Saint Mary's, 1-0

MORAGA, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Saint Mary's, Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs fall to 1-5-1 on the season, 1-3-0 on the road.
FIRST HALF
Tori Nicolo, Olivia Muhrbeck, Megan Amick, Alyssa Nishikawa, Melissa Ellis, Maria Gomez, Shantay Tamez, Robyn McCarthy, Emma Chivers and Danielle Pacheco recorded the start for the Bulldogs, with Nicole Theroux in the goal.
Fresno State took the first shot of the game when Amick took a shot on goal in the third minute, the SMC goalie grabbed the save. The momentum switched as the Gaels took three consecutive shots, ending with a shot on goal but Theroux was there to record her first save of the game.
The 'Dogs took a corner kick in the 23rd minute, which led to a shot by Ellis. Unfortunately, the shot went wide to keep the score tied 0-0 halfway through the first half.
Fresno State had another opportunity when Tamez took back-to-back shots in the 33rd minute, both were blocked by the Gael's defense.
At the half, Fresno State owned the advantage in shots (5-4) and corners (2-0). SMC recorded more saves, 2-1.
SECOND HALF
Marie Berwinkel-Kottmann checked in as goalkeeper for Fresno State to start the second half.
The 'Dogs earned a penalty kick in the 52nd minute. Gomez took the kick for Fresno State, but the SMC goalie made a difficult save to keep the score even. The Gaels then took the ball to the other end of the field and scored in the 53rd minute, taking a 1-0 lead over the 'Dogs.
Kayla King tried to put Fresno State on the board in the 70th minute, but her shot was saved by the goalie. Ele Avery took a shot of her own in the 71st minute, but the Gaels' defense was able to track it down for the block. The 'Dogs took one last shot in the 82nd minute, but Chloe Chedester missed wide.
The clock would expire with the Gaels leading 1-0.
