Fresno State set for Cal Cup

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Fresno State women's water polo team will travel to compete in the Cal Cup Jan. 26-27, at the Spieker Aquatics Complex. The field features seven teams, all ranked in this week's CWPA Top 25.

Fresno State will face four teams ranked within the Top 15 over the weekend including No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 UCLA, No. 4 Cal and No. 11Â Long Beach State.

- Fresno State moved into the CWPA Top 25 this week at No. 17.
- Last week, the 'Dogs notched their first win of the 2019 season defeating No. 13 Indiana 12-7.
- Sophomore Emily Nicholson was named the Golden Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week for games played through Tuesday, Jan. 22. She led the Bulldogs through the UCSB Invitational, scoring 10 goals over the weekend. The sophomore center tied her career-high with five goals in the win over Indiana.
- Fresno State's offense has scored 26 goals this season, averaging 6.5 goals per game.
- Nicholson leads the 'Dogs on offense with a team-high 10 goals this season.
- Mackenzie Richards has been in the cage for Fresno State.
- Cal owns the all-time record between the two teams 1-0. The last time the teams met, Cal defeated Fresno State 19-6 on Jan. 28, 2018.
- Stanford owns the all-time record between the two teams 1-0. The last time the teams met, Stanford defeated Fresno State 22-5 on Jan. 28, 2018.
- This will be the first time in program history that Fresno State will face UCLA and Long Beach State.

- Cal returns its leading scorer from 2018 in Emma Wright, who scored 47 goals. Cal also returns starting goalkeeper Madison Tagg, who grabbed 166 saves last season.
- The Bears finished the 2018 season with a 20-6 (3-1 MPSF) record.
- Cal earned a bid to the 2018 NCAA Tournament. The Bears advanced to the semifinals before falling to Stanford 11-7.
- Cal graduated four All-Americans, including all-time leading scorer Dora Antal.

- UCLA earned a bid to the 2018 NCAA Tournament. The Bruins advanced to the semifinals before falling to eventual champion USC 10-6.
