Fresno State finishes UCSB Fall Invitational

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Fresno State men's tennis team competed in the UCSB Fall Invitational over the weekend. Daniel Baturyn, Bailey Gong and Johanes Seeman represented the Bulldogs, playing in both singles and doubles.
DOUBLES – Baturyn and Seeman paired up in the B Flight, defeating Shenkiryk and Fonseca of Cal Poly in the first round 8-4. They advanced to the semifinals where they bested Verdi and Dominguez of UCSB 8-3. The duo fell in the championship match to Wright and Zincirli of Cal 8-5.
Gong paired up with UCLA's Hovenier to compete in the C Flight. The duo fell to Williams and Vukmanovic of UCSB 8-1. They moved to the third place match, but were bested by Stater and Nakayama of Cal Poly.
SINGLES – Baturyn and Seeman both competed in the B Flight. Baturyn defeated Roberts of Oregon in a three-set battle 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. He advanced to the quarterfinals, falling to Fonseca of Cal Pol 6-0, 7-5. He moved to the consolation bracket, defeating Turchetta of Stanford 6-0, 7-5. Baturyn fell in the fifth place match 7-5, 6-1 to Cal Poly's Vardanyan.
Seeman opened singles play with a 6-2, 7-6(3) win over UCLA's Pereira. He fell in the quarterfinals to Lam of Oregon 6-3, 6-3. He moved to the consolation bracket. He fell to Vardanyan of Cal Poly in close match 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Seeman took seventh place when he defeated Sam Turchetta of Stanford.
Gong played in the C Flight for the Bulldogs. He was bested by Williams of UCSB in the opening round 6-1, 6-2. He played extra matches, falling to Torlic of LMU (6-3, 6-1) and Vukmanovic of UCSB (7-6(3), 7-5).
