'Dogs finish day one of 71st Annual Blue and Gray National Tennis Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Fresno State men's tennis team finished the first day of the 71st Annual Blue and Gray National Tennis Classic with a 4-1 loss to No. 16 Alabama.
Fresno State falls to 5-5 (1-0 MW) this season.
Doubles – The Bulldogs sported a familiar doubles lineup with Mantas Bugailiskis and Angus Bradshaw at the No.1 position, Zdenek Derkas and Cem Erturk at No. 2 along with Cagatay Soke and Patrik Pech at No.3.
Fresno State started doubles play strong, taking an early lead on two courts. Alabama would rally back to take the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
The Crimson Tide would take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Singles – Alabama took a 2-0 lead when Bradshaw was bested at the No. 2 position.
Derkas put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard when he defeated #32 Mazen Osama in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. This win marks Derkas' third win over a ranked opponent this season.
The Crimson Tide extended its lead to 3-1 when Bugailiskis fell at the No. 2 position. The match was clinched at the No. 6 position when Jeremy Moser was bested by his opponent.
The matches at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions were pushed into third sets and left unfinished.
What's next – Fresno State was moved into the consolation bracket, and opened its match against Princeton on Friday afternoon. Princeton took the doubles point, and will carry a 1-0 lead into singles play when the match resumes tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. PT.
