'Dogs finish 71st Annual Blue and Gray National Tennis Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Fresno State men's tennis team finished the 2019 Blue and Gray National Tennis Classic with losses to Princeton and Auburn on Saturday.
Fresno State falls to 5-7 (1-0 MW) on the season.
vs. Princeton
Doubles – The Bulldogs took the court with Mantas Bugailiskis and Angus Bradshaw at the No. 1 position, Cem Erturk and Zdenek Derkas as the No. 2 along with Cagatay Soke and Patrik Pech at the No. 3.
Princeton took the win at the No. 1 position 6-3. Fresno State battled back and took the win at the No. 2 position 6-3. The doubles point was clinched when the Tigers bested Soke and Pech at the No. 3 position 7-5.
Singles – Princeton extended its lead to 2-0 when Henrique Osorio lost in straight sets at the No. 6 position 6-2, 6-0.
Fresno State earned its first point of the match when Erturk bested his opponent at the No. 5 position in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.
The Tigers took a 3-1 lead when Derkas fell at the No. 1 position 6-4, 6-3. The match was clinched at the No. 3 position when Bradshaw fell in a close match 7-5, 6-4.
Princeton took the win 4-1. The matches at the No. 2 and No. 5 positions were pushed into third sets and left unfinished.Â
vs. Auburn
Doubles – Fresno State sported the same doubles lineup.
Auburn took the doubles point with a 6-1 win at the No. 1 position and a 6-1 win at the No. 2 position.
The match at the No. 3 position was left unfinished.
Singles – Auburn earned its second point at the No. 4 position when Soke fell 6-1, 6-2. The Tigers took a 3-0 lead when Bugailiskis was bested 6-0, 6-4.
The Bulldogs earned their first point of the match when Osorio defeated his opponent in three sets 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 position.
The match was clinched when Derkas fell at the No. 1 position 6-3, 6-3. Auburn took the win 4-1.Â
What's next – Fresno State will travel to compete in the Pacific Mountain Invitational March 2-3.
