'Dogs blank Wolf Pack 4-0 to advance in MW Championship

FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 3-seeded Fresno State men's tennis team toppled No. 6 Nevada 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Mountain West Championship at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center, Thursday night.
"We had great fan support," said head coach Luke Shields. "It really gave us energy and propelled us forward. Nevada's a solid team. I was really happy with the focus we had. Jeremy (Moser) did a great job of carrying the momentum from the first set tiebreak into the second set. Zdenek (Derkas) and Cagatay (Soke) really were dialed in. Tomorrow's match is going to be a battle. We are prepared and ready for a dog fight."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles – Nevada had a quick start with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 position. Fresno State was down a game at both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, but the Bulldogs weren't going to go down without a fight.
Mantas Bugailiskis and Cem Erturk regained momentum to defeat Benjamin Campi and Kostya Nesterenko at the No. 2 position 7-5. The doubles point was clinched when Zdenek Derkas and Patrik Pech bested Julien Evrard and Matvey Radionov in a hard-fought match 7-5.
The Bulldogs earned the doubles after dropping it in the last four matches, to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Singles – Fresno State carried the energy into singles play. Zdenek, 2019 MW Player of the Year, was the first off the court with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over Julien Evrard.
Cagatay Soke gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead, defeating Matvey Radionov 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 6 position. Jeremy Moser clinched the match at the No. 4 position, besting 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.
The matches at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 were left unfinished.

Fresno State advances to the semifinals for the fourth consecutive year. The Bulldogs will face No. 2 seed Utah State on Friday, April 26 at 3 p.m. PT at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
TICKETS
Single session tickets for Friday and Saturday are $10 for adults and $5 for children. All-session tickets/wristbands are $20 for adults and $10 for children. Tickets will begin being sold one hour prior to the start of competition each day. There will be free admission for Fresno State students.
