Fresno State advances to 2019 Mountain West Championship

"We were fired up for this match," head coach Luke Shields said. "Our guys fed off the crowd in doubles. Our energy was great throughout the match. We were down a break at No. 1 and No. 2, but we fought back well. Utah state is tough team, a really well coached team. They've had our number the last two years in big matches, so our guys were really ready to go today and made a statement. We'll need a big crowd tomorrow so hope the red wave shows up. Go 'Dogs!"
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Doubles – It was a hard-fought doubles point. Cagatay Soke and Angus Bradshaw came out on fire defeating Durio Opacic and Sergiu Bucur 6-3 at the No. 2 position. Mantas Bugailiskis and Cem Erturk battled back from being a break down to defeat Felipe Acosta and Isaac Arevalo Gomez 6-4, clinching the doubles point.Â
The match at the No. 1 position was left unfinished, knotted 5-5.Â
The Bulldogs picked up a huge doubles point to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.Â
Singles– Utah State battled back to pick up a 7-6(2), 6-1 at the No. 6 position to tie the match 1-1.Â
Bradshaw, an All-MW Singles selection, rolled passed Bucur at the No. 3 position in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to retake the lead 2-1. Erturk continued the Bulldogs' reign with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 5 poisition over Rithvil Bollipalli.Â
The Aggies chalked their second point with a three-set win over Jeremy Moser at the No 4 position 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.Â
The intensity of the match amplified with the final two matches being pushed into third sets. Bugailiskis rallied back from being a set down to defeat Jose Carvajal 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 at the No. 2 position to clinch the win for Fresno State.Â
The match at the No. 1 position was left unfinished 6-7 (4), 6-4, 2-2.Â

Fresno State will face No. 4 San Diego State in the MW Championship on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. PT in the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
TICKETS
Single session tickets for Saturday are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets will begin being sold one hour prior to the start of competition each day. There will be free admission for Fresno State students.
