No. 3 Fresno State set to face No. 2 San Diego State in MPSF semifinals

The ‘Dogs and Aztecs will face off on Friday, April 26 at 5 p.m. in Davis.
FRESNO, Calif. -Â The Fresno State lacrosse team looks towards the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship Tournament, hosted by UC Davis from April 26-28. The Bulldogs enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face the No. 2-seeded San Diego State in the first round.Â

The 'Dogs and Aztecs will face off on Friday, April 26 at 5 p.m. in Davis. The winner of the first round game will advance to the finals to face No. 1-seeded UC Davis. The 2019 Championship game is scheduled for Sunday, April 28 at 1 p.m.Â

"We are extremely excited for postseason play and we are determined." said head coach Jessica Giglio. "This team has shown tremendous growth and remarkable progress throughout the season. We have grown from our losses and are relentless in our pursuit of a championship title this season."

QUICK LOOK AT THE BULLDOGS
Fresno State finished its regular season with a 7-6 (0-2 MPSF) mark. The Bulldogs finished in third place in the MPSF standings after falling to UC Davis (19-10) and San Diego State (16-15).Â

Bulldogs in the MPSF
The 'Dogs had six All-MPSF nods this season, including the 2019 Rookie of the Year in freshman attacker Sydney Skalstad.Â

Attackers- Skalstad represented the 'Dogs as an attacker alongside junior Tiffiny Wallace who earned her third conference honor. The pair combined for 59 goals this season. Wallace became the first Bulldog in program history to score 100 career goals. She sits at 108 heading into the conference tournament.Â

Midfielders- Junior midfielder Kayla Galet represented Fresno State in the midfield as she tied for second on the team with 28 goals and added a single-season career-high 24 draw controls. She led the conference and ranked No. 10 in the NCAA with a 0.596 shot percentage on the season.Â

Defenders- The Bulldogs saw a pair of defenders on the All-MPSF team in junior Olivia Mannon and sophomore Abbigayle Roberts. The duo sat atop the team leaderboards with 12 caused turnovers each. Roberts was second on the team with 27 ground balls and Mannon followed closely with 23 for a combined 50 on the season.Â

Goalkeeper- Junior keeper Laurel Maunder secured the goalkeeper slot on the All-Conference Team after chalking 168 saves on the season. Maunder moved her way up to No, 1 in Fresno State history with 441 career saves. She sat at No. 2 in the NCAA this season in saves per game with a 12.92 average. She ranked eighth in saves and 13th in save percentage on the season.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE AZTECSÂ
The Bulldogs finished their regular season with a road game at San Diego State where the Aztecs narrowly defeated the 'Dogs, 16-15. Maunder had a career-high game with 20 saves and junior attacker Marina Mayo fired a career-high five goals in the contest.Â

The squads met in the first round of the 2018 MPSF Championship Tournament where the Aztecs advanced to the finals with a 16-6 victory and would eventually go on to win the tournament with an overtime win against UC Davis.

- SDSU finished its regular season with a 9-7 (1-1 MPSF) record.Â
- SDSU secured the No. 2 seed with a 16-15 victory over Fresno State after falling to UC Davis, 16-12.
- The Aztecs are led by Harlowe Steele who has fired 44 goals on the season.
- Defensively, SDSU has four defenders with double digit caused turnovers on the season: Taylor Sullivan (16), Marissa MacRae (14) and Elizabeth Adams and Katy Sharats (13).Â
- In MPSF play, the Aztecs are led by Steele and Lexi Tan who have scored six goals each.Â
- Katy Sharretts has gotten the start in the goal for the Aztecs in all 16 games this season. She has tallied 157 saves for a .444 save percentage.Â
