Arruda earns Mountain West Player of the Week honors

The Diamond 'Dogs earned their third Mountain West Player of the Week honor this season on Monday with shortstop JT Arruda earning the nod for the first time in his career.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - For the third time in the last four weeks, Fresno State Baseball has earned the Mountain West Player of the Week honor as redshirt sophomore shortstop JT Arruda picked up the honor for the first time in his career, the conference office announced on Monday.
Helping the 'Dogs to a series win over San Diego State on Senior Weekend, Arruda joins infield mate and senior second baseman Nolan Dempsey as Bulldogs who have earned MW Player of the Week honors in 2019.
Arruda hit a team-leading .583 in the series against the Aztecs going 7-for-12 with three multi-hit games, drove in three RBI and scored four runs.
The Clovis native, who was also named the College Sports Madness Mountain West Player of the Week on Monday, got his week started with a three-hit performance on Friday in a 10-2 win over the Aztecs scoring a run. He kept it going on Saturday with his sixth home run of the season adding a single, walk, stolen base and closed out the series on Sunday with another home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
On the season, Arruda has started all 47 games for the 'Dogs at shortstop and currently ranks second in the MW in walks (34), fourth in on-base percentage (.451), seventh in runs (43), RBI (38) & slugging percentage (.545), eighth in batting average (.347) and is tied for ninth in home runs (7).
The Diamond 'Dogs, who entered Baseball America's national rankings on Monday at No. 25, return to action on Thursday closing out the regular season at UNLV (27-24, 14-13 MW).
