Two individuals, one relay team advance to NCAAs

FRESNO, Calif. – The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee has announced the participants for the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Heading straight to nationals will be Fresno State's Jestena Mattson in the heptathlon. Competing in the West Preliminary Round will be Varvara Klyuchnikova in the high jump and the Bulldogs' 4x400 relay team (Maja Pogorevc, Divina Henry, Jestena Mattson, Patricija Roshofa).

Mattson, who sits 14th overall on the descending order list with 5,635 points, will be one of 24 athletes to compete in the heptathlon at the Outdoor Championships which is held in Austin, Texas on June 5-8. The senior collected her personal-best point total last week en-route to winning her second-straight Mountain West gold medal in the combined event.

Klyuchnikova earned her advancement to the West Preliminary Round as she ranks No. 34 in the region. The senior high jumper is coming off of a silver medal performance at the MW Championships, her second medal of the year. The Bulldog enters prelims with a season-best mark of 1.75m/5-8.75 and a personal best of 1.78m/5-10.

The Bulldogs' women's 4x400 relay team also earned a spot at regionals as the group sits 18th on the region's descending order list. The 'Dogs grabbed their spot by clocking a season-best time of 3:37.73 at the MW Championships as they claimed a silver medal.

The West Preliminary Round will be held at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, California from May 23-25.
