Chamberlain places third at 2019 World Team Trials

Fresno State Wrestling assistant coach Jason Chamberlain placed third at the 2019 World Team Trials on Sunday in Raleigh, N.C.
RALEIGH, N.C. - Fresno State Wrestling assistant coach and Valley Regional Training Center athlete Jason Chamberlain placed third at the 2019 World Team Trials on Sunday hosted at Reynolds Coliseum.
Competing at 70 kg./154.3 lbs. Chamberlain went 3-1 in the tournament posting a 2-1 mark on Saturday and closed out his tournament on Sunday with a 4-2 win over Brandon Sorensen (Hawkeye Wrestling Club) in the third place match.
Entering the tournament as the No. 6 seed, Chamberlain upset No. 3 seed Alec Pantaleo (Cliff Keen WC), 3-2 in the quarterfinals before falling to No. 7 seed Anthony Ashnault (Scarlet Knights Wrestling Club), 2-1 in the semifinals.
He rebounded later on Saturday to top No. 8 seed Mario Mason (Lehigh Valley WC), 12-4 in the consolation semifinals to stay alive for Sunday's match.
Fellow Valley RTC athlete Joey Lavallee also competed at the World Team Trials competing at 74 kg./163.1 lbs. falling in his pair of matches to No. 1 seed Thomas Gantt (Titan Mercury WC), 9-3 and No. 5 seed Richie Lewis (Lehigh Valley WC), 2-1.
In addition on Sunday, Tyler Graff (Titan Mercury WC) won the 61 kg./134.5 lbs. division earning a berth in Final X on June 15 in Lincoln, Neb., where he will face Bulldog volunteer assistant coach Joe Colon with a spot on the World Championship team on the line.
