Jensen earns second Mountain West Pitcher of the Week honor

Junior pitcher Ryan Jensen earns his second Mountain West Pitcher of the Week honor this season.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - For the fourth time this season, the Diamond 'Dogs had a pitcher named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week as junior right-hander Ryan Jensen earned the honor for the second time this season, the conference office announced on Monday.
Helping the Bulldogs clinch the Mountain West regular season title on Thursday with a 7-0 win at UNLV, Jensen matched his career high of eight innings limiting the Rebels to three hits, all singles, while allowing zero earned runs and no walks.
Facing only four batters over the minimum, the Salinas, Calif., native struck out 10 while only allowing UNLV baserunners in two of eight innings. Jensen retired 10 batters from the final out of the first inning to the first batter of the fifth inning. A single and Bulldog error put runners on first and second for UNLV with no outs in the fifth, but Jensen was able to escape the frame unharmed and went on to retire the final 12 Rebel batters he faced from that point on.
On the season, Jensen, who was also named the College Sports Madness Mountain West Player of the Week, finishes the regular season leading the Mountain West in wins (10), ranking third in innings pitched (84.1) & strikeouts (89), fifth in ERA (3.09) and sixth in opposing batting average (.230).
The top-seeded and nationally-ranked Diamond 'Dogs open the 2019 Mountain West Championship on Thursday vs. No. 4 seed Nevada (29-24, 14-16 MW) in Reno at 6:30 p.m.
