The Diamond 'Dogs secured their first series win at Nevada since 2007 on Saturday evening with a 8-1 victory over the Wolf Pack.
RENO, Nev. - A complete game, 10-strikeout performance by Bulldog starting pitcher Davis Moore helped the Diamond 'Dogs secure their first series win at Nevada since 2007 on Saturday evening with a 8-1 win at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.
The junior right-hander was sensational from start to finish tossing his first career complete game while only allowing three Wolf Pack hits and one walk while striking out 10. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native retired the final 13 batters he faced and had 1-2-3 frames in seven of his nine innings.
Offensively, Fresno State (29-13-1, 14-7-1 MW) was held to six hits with three of them going for extra bases.
Sophomore designated hitter Emilio Nogales smacked his first home run of 2019 with a three-run shot in the first inning while redshirt sophomore shortstop JT Arruda added a pair of hits, including his fourth home run of the season. Redshirt senior third baseman McCarthy Tatum tacked on his team-leading 13th double of the campaign.
How It Happened
With the Bulldogs scoring in the first inning for the 20th time this season, the 'Dogs gave Moore a four-run lead to work with plating one run on a RBI fielder's choice by Tatum and added three more runs thanks to Nogales' first long ball of the season to left-center.
Nevada (25-22, 11-15 MW) attempted to answer back quickly in the bottom of the first loading the bases with a walk, single and hit by pitch with no outs. The Wolf Pack were only able to muster one run on a sacrifice fly by shortstop Tyler Bosetti that cut the 'Dogs lead to 4-1 as the home team threatened to score more, but Moore was able to get first baseman Connor Allard to hit into a 5-4-3 double play by to escape the jam.
The 'Dogs tacked on two more runs in the third inning capitalizing on a Wolf Pack fielding error as a popup by sophomore catcher Zach Presno (watch) to shallow right field was unable to be caught by Nevada second baseman Keaton Smith allowing Tatum and second baseman Nolan Dempsey to come home for a 6-1 lead.
It was all Moore from there as the junior sent down the Wolf Pack in order in the fourth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings as Nevada was only able to get runners on base in the fifth picking up two of its three hits in the inning.
After being held scoreless for five innings, the Bulldogs completed the scoring in the game in the top of the ninth on a two-run home run by Arruda (watch) to right-center to make the final score, 8-1 in favor of the 'Dogs.

On Davis Moore's performance....
"To go and get the complete game after overcoming the first inning that is really good stuff and he had three pitches that he was commanding well. His change-up was outstanding and that was the difference maker tonight."
